The avant-garde dance duo 86B210, who continue to perform in various venues such as theaters, clubs, streets, and galleries both in Japan and internationally, will collaborate with Megumi Iwata, a talented individual who is the director and editor of Atelier Third, the leader of the Koto Music Chionkai, a member of the Miyagi Kai and the Gunma Sankyoku Association, and a board member of the Onko Wagaku Kai. She is also the head of the Koto department at the Nippori Koubo Musica, and she actively performs as part of the spoken-word and music unit "EFFEXOR" and the Koto duo "Tsuki wo Aizuru." This will be a celebration of the Koto and voice. PERFORMER Megumi Iwata (Koto & Vocal) Ikuta-ryu Koto Musician, Miyagi-ha Performer Megumi Iwata began learning the koto at the age of 3 and also studied Western musical expressions such as piano and ballet. Influenced by her teacher from her alma mater, Naonaga Yamaguchi (a disciple of the renowned dancer Kazuo Ohno), she became familiar with Butoh and contemporary music, and has been exploring the boundaries between traditional and modern forms of expression. In 2025, she will study under Michiyo Yagi. At Takasaki Junior College of Music, she studied contemporary koto music under Tadao Sawai and Kazue Sawai, and contemporary music with Kei Ichiyanagi. She participated in the Arts Council's invitation and Singapore performance with the Okamoto Ballet Company (1992) and the Japan Festival held in Glasgow (1994). More recently, she performed koto music at the Meditations Biennale in Istanbul (2023), as part of a collaborative piece with Polish Theatre Rozbark and Japanese Butoh dancers titled "DARKNESS AROUND DULLNESS..." She is the editor and director of Atelier Third, the head of the Koto Music Chionkai, a member of the Miyagi Kai and Gunma Sankyoku Association, and a board member of the Onko Wagaku Kai. She also heads the Koto department at Nippori Koubo Musica. In addition, she is active as part of the spoken-word and music unit "EFFEXOR" and the Koto duo "Tsuki wo Mezuru." 86B210 86B210 is an avant-garde dance duo active both domestically and internationally. They perform in various venues, including theaters, clubs, streets, and galleries. 86B210 began their activities in Europe with the Paris-Tokyo Festival organized by the Public Relations and Culture Center of the Japanese Embassy in France. Their work addresses problems and questions of living in modern society, creating poetic pieces themed around "living humanly" and improvisational sensory experimental theater. In 2007, they were featured at the top of "DANSER" (France) and "ballet tanz" (Germany) best stage 34. Information about 86B210 was reported by the Kyodo News Paris Bureau. Since 2013, 86B210 has have been operating Art Space Co-oh, a place for various artsand artists to interact. The duo participates in sessions with different artists and appear in photographic and video works. Recently, they were the subject of monochrome photographs by the master photographer Michael Kenna, which were exhibited at the Ebisu Photography Museum as part of his major retrospective.
